Sunrise Coal - Carlisle Mine / Slurry Impoundment Reconstruction

Sunrise Coal Company wanted to modify and reconstruct portions of their coal fine slurry impoundment cell. The project involved lowering the crest height by 10 feet, reducing the top width by 20 feet, and laying the interior slope to 2.7:1 side slope. The material excavated from the existing levee was then utilized to construct an earthen buttress along the tow of the exterior levee slope. Other activities on this project included the installation of a new primary spillway riser pipe, a grouted rip rap stilling basin, underdrains, ditch relocations, and mulched seeding.
